Titans defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth faces tough competition for the GMC Sierra Defensive Player of the Year award.
Baltimore Ravens safety Ed Reed is a finalist along with Haynesworth, Dolphins linebacker Joey Porter, Steelers linebacker James Harrison and Cowboys linebacker DeMarcus Ware.
Defensive tackle is not a glamour position and Haynesworth rarely makes highlight reels. But diehard fans know that Big Al is a special talent and is the catalyst of the Titans defense.
Haynesworth is in his seventh year with Tennessee and has been voted to the Pro Bowl two consecutive years. He achieved career highs this season by making 41 solo tackles and registering 8.5 sacks.
Reed, Porter, Harrison and Ware make flashier plays, but Haynesworth is a force in the trenches and gets my vote for defensive player of the year.
