Haynesworth will test free agent market

Apparently, the Tennessee Titans did not roll out the red carpet for its best player and may soon suffer the consequences for its inaction.

Defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth will test the free agent market before giving the Titans another chance to sign him. Haynesworth becomes a free agent on February 27.

Over the past seven years, Big Al has become one of the best defensive tackles in the NFL. He was the catalyst for a defense which kept the team in games when the offense struggled. He drew attention away from fellow linemen Kyle Vanden Bosch, Tony Brown and Jevon Kearse, and solidified the league’s best bend-but-don’t break defensive unit.

Today, we face the very real prospect that number 92 will no longer wear Titans blue.

I understand Tennessee’s conservative fiscal approach, but I can’t help but wonder if an 8-8 season, or worse, awaits Titans fans in 2009.

Albert Haynesworth makes a good defense great. He would certainly make new defensive coordinator Chuck Cecil’s job a lot easier.

Some team will pay handsomely for his presence. We’ll find out which team writes the big check in a matter of weeks.
