2009 NFL Draft: Second Day Recap

As predicted by Titans Tracker, the Tennessee drafted “a cornerback, another receiver, and a couple of offensive linemen” on day two of the 2009 NFL Draft. Cornerback Ryan Mouton, wide receiver Dominique Edison, tackle Troy Kropog and guard Ryan Durand will get the opportunity to make Tennessee’s 2009 roster.

Two of the Titans’ choices put the team’s tight ends and running backs on notice.

Tennessee’s selection of athletic tight end Jared Cook with its third round likely means that Bo Scaife‘s days as a Titan are numbered.

Scaife, designated the team’s franchise player, has not signed his tender offer of $4.46 million and so far has not participated in Tennessee’s offseason workouts. If the Titans withdraw the franchise player designation, Scaife will become a free agent.

Former Michigan running back Javon Ringer, a player I like, was picked in the fifth round. Running back is not a need area for the Titans, and I suspect team management may be preparing to part with LenDale White before the 2010 season begins, if not sooner.

Tennessee also drafted cornerback Jason McCourty and safety Nick Schommer who will compete for playing time as backups and on special teams.

Kudos to Tennessee Titans management for an outstanding performance during the second day of the draft, and for a solid draft overall.

  1. When I heard that you guys got Javon Ringer I was shocked and yet I really like the pick. I don’t see why you would need him but in my opinion he was one of the best players of the draft and a big steal at this point.
