The Tennessee Titans won consecutive games for the first time this season as they dominated the Jacksonville Jaguars on Monday Night Football.
The story of the game? Vince Young managed to walk away from a gruesome-looking knee injury. Young appeared to be on the way to a monster night after leading the Titans to a touchdown drive on the team’s first offensive series. Thanks to the Good Lord, or good conditioning, or both, VY should be ready to suit up when the Philadelphia Eagles fly to Nashville next weekend. Game manager Kerry Collins was efficient in relief, completing 11 of 16 passes for 110 yards and a score.
Chris Johnson was effective in the second half and broke a 35-yard touchdown run late in the 4th quarter. I like the fact that CJ ran well. I’m not sure I like his declaration that his primary motivation for playing late in the game was to gain more yards.
David Garrard was knocked out of the game by a clean, hard tackle delivered by Will Witherspoon. I have a feeling we have seen the last of Garrard in Jacksonville. Captain Checkdown (his legal name is Trent Edwards) gave his team a bit of a spark upon entering the game, but interceptions and fumbles robbed the Jags of any chance to compete against Tennessee.
Alterraun Verner struck again with another interception. I suppose the rookie can’t be voted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame after two games as a starter, but man, does this guy have potential. Jason McCourty, welcome to the Titans dime defensive unit.
Rookie reciever Damian Williams looked sharp as he caught4 passes for 48 yards.
A couple of interesting facts:
- After six weeks, the Titans lead the NFL in points scored
- Tennessee has won all three of its road games
The Titans have the looks of a playoff team. I’m still holding out hope that the front office will make a last-second deal with the Washington Redskins to bring Albert Haynesworth back in the fold.
